Officer Richard G. Magan

Officer Richard G. Magan was killed in the line of duty on August 11, 2000. Detective Magan died from injuries sustained from a fall while he was responding to another officer’s call for help during the city’s annual waterfront festival, Fall River Celebrates America.

 

Detective Magan responded to the intersection of Davol and Central Streets after another officer called out for help while attempting to subdue two men fighting in a mill yard. Detective Magan fell 20 feet down a steep embankment and later died as a result of related injuries.

 

Detective Magan was 39 years old when he died. He was appointed on May 6, 1982. He is survived by three children. Detective Magan’s father, George Magan, is a retired Fall River Police Officer.
